Fraud is a direct financial loss to the Scheme and affects every member by eroding the cash available to fund benefits and optimise the premiums you pay. Bankmed is not taking this risk lightly; we are working constantly to prevent, detect and resolve fraud and misconduct. Each and every member also has a role to play in minimising the impact of this abuse on your scheme. Bankmed has a fraud risk management programme in place to address this risk.

Fraud and abuse can often be detected by examining your claims statements to see whether they reflect the services rendered. If you suspect that fraud or abuse has occurred, or you have become aware of potential fraud or abuse that may affect the Scheme, please call the Bankmed Toll-Free Fraud Hotline number anonymously on 0800 200 564. This service is managed by a third party and the caller's identity is fully protected.
What constitutes fraud and misconduct?
Abuse of your medical scheme typically arises through two or more people colluding to circumvent the law and scheme rules. Fraud and misconduct are broad concepts, but essentially fraud is a misrepresentation intended to secure an unfair or unlawful gain. Misconduct is a more general concept. There may be a violation of laws, scheme rules and policies, or market expectations of ethical business conduct, but it may not be possible to determine that these acts were done with the intent to deceive the scheme. To illustrate abuse, we list some of the incidents that we would consider to be fraud or misconduct:
