Back to school hacks

Back to school time - The time most children dread after a glorious summer holiday, and the time most parents can hardly wait for, after running out of ways to keep the kids busy. We know back to school can be a crazy rush. It’s buying uniform, stationery, books and then labelling all of that. And then praying that your children don’t lose their newly labelled attire and equipment you just spent your hard earned money on.

It doesn’t all have to be madness though. We’ve compiled a few nifty hacks to help calm the back to school storm and hopefully keep you sane throughout the year.

Practice your morning routine. For children, after a long summer holiday, late nights and even later morning lying in. Getting back into the school morning routine can be a drab. Practice the morning routine on weekends by planning an early fun outing. Maybe a trip to the zoo or a movie. Encourage early bedtimes- even on the weekend. Growing children need plenty of rest.

Organise snacks and lunchboxes in advance. It takes 10 minutes in the evening to pack a lunch box. Those extra ten minutes in the morning could be the difference between sitting in traffic or making it to school early.

Like Clockwork. Create an after-school clock to help keep the kids organised. All you need is a plain wall clock and some coloured markers of your choice. After a little time, your kids will feel in control of their own schedule.

Sticky note it. School days can get very busy, in between the hustle and bustle when you have that “Oh I must remember to…” moment, put it on a sticky note on your fridge or nightstand or anywhere you know you’ll see it. Your memory (or lack thereof) will thank you later.

Don’t forget to unwind at the end of the week. The best day of the week has got to be Friday. Netflix and chill time. Quiet moments will come and go throughout the school year, and they are there waiting for you despite the chaos and stress that comes along with the return of another school year.
