Improve your office space with Feng Shui
Feng Shui is the Chinese philosophical system of harmonising individuals with their surrounding environment. According the principles of Feng Shui, harmonising your office space will allow you to feel inspired, productive and empowered. Other benefits include enhancing your creativity and improving discipline.
How to make your workspace better
Organise
Make sure that you organise your surroundings and get rid of clutter. Clutter takes up your valuable workspace and makes you feel claustrophobic and disorganised. Organise your workspace so everything you need on a regular basis is an arm’s reach away. Items you use rarely or once in a while can be filed away. This will make your workspace more manageable.
Where to sit
Placement of your desk is key - the further your desk from the door the better. If you share office space with a colleague, try not to sit back-to-back or face-to-face. The solution would be to sit adjacent to your colleague.
Your space
Surround yourself with artwork and imagery that keeps you inspired and motivated. Your office space should reflect your desires, therefore allowing for the manifestation of your ambition and goals.
Try to utilise the natural elements of wood, earth, metal, fire and water in your work zone. For example, have some plants in the office for the wood element, open your blinds and allow some natural light in for the fire element, and even filing cabinets for the metal element.
Choose office colours that have a calming effect such as soft-yellow and blue-green – adding white will increase clarity and mental focus, while browns and earth tones tend to stabilise but not stimulate the mind. Also, try to incorporate stress relievers (such as mini Zen gardens or a painting that calms you) to avoid agitation.
You spend many hours in the office. Make it your place of success and productivity by ensuring you harmonise your workspace.
