Get prepped for winter with these tips

From exercise and food to wardrobe and daily routine, we’ve got you sorted for the chilly weather.

Warm up with a workout

If you have a good exercise regimen in place already, good on you! If not, now is the time to start one. Once the colder weather and darker and longer days kick in you won’t feel the motivation to put on some lycra and go to a spin class.

But even if you don’t have a gym membership you can do it. Your friends and YouTube are your besties for this. A home workout, anyone? YouTube can coach you through anything from yoga and strength training to cardio.

Layer on the…layers

Out with the old and in with the new (and necessary). Go through your wardrobe and put aside anything you haven’t worn in the last six months or more for charity or resale. If you see you don’t have certain winter basics like leggings, jeans, knit jerseys, long-sleeve shirts and warm boots then it may be time to hit the mall or your favourite online shopping site.

Get your fill

Winter is not the time to forgo all the hard work you put in during summer. A healthy diet continues throughout the year.

Soups, stews and curries are great for those cold winter nights and if made correctly will be jam-packed with nutrients and minerals that are needed to prevent colds and flu.

Right on, routine

We hear you, hitting snooze until you cannot hit snooze anymore is oh so tempting when it’s dark and cold! Fight the urge, because we know the go-getter in you will thank you later. Try and stick to your daily routine as best you can during winter so that positive habits you picked up in previous months don’t fall by the wayside.

It’s especially important to stick to a morning winter routine as this will help you get out of bed in the morning and out of the house on a positive note. Things like selecting your outfit the night before, setting your alarm 15 minutes before you need to spring out of bed and having a quick warm shower in the morning are great to add to your winter routine. Don’t forget to fuel up with a hot cup of coffee, tea or even hot chocolate and a healthy breakfast to kick start your day.

Don’t worry, Netflix and chill will be at home ready for you after you’ve aced your winter's day.
