Five reasons to go digital

Why wait on the phone with the call centre when you can have immediate access to your Scheme details and tools to find a Healthcare Professional, submit your claims and even view your medical history.

You can find general information about Bankmed Medical Scheme on our website, www.bankmed.co.za. But once you register for the website, you unlock powerful tools that allow you to check your available benefits and manage your Plan wherever you are.

Your username and password allow you quick and easy access to your membership details, personal details, and your Plan on the website or the Bankmed App on your Android, Apple or Blackberry or smartphone. If you have not yet, why not download it now? It is a small mobile application that is free to download and does not use much data.

The following tools are available to keep you up to date and make your life easier:

1. A membership card you cannot lose

Replacing cards is a nightmare if your wallet is lost or stolen. With the Bankmed App this is no problem. As long as you and your family have your smartphones with you, you have access to the virtual membership card. Simply select Membership card to load instant proof of membership.

2. Check what benefits are available

You don’t have to wonder if you still have benefits available before you visit a Healthcare Professional. You can simply check your Benefits used online or on the Bankmed App. This will show you what benefits you and your family have used, what benefits are available, and if there are any limits that might apply to your cover.

3. Find a Healthcare Professional

The website and the Bankmed App have a handy search function so you can find a Healthcare Professional near you. All you need to do is choose Find a healthcare provider, enter the type or name of a medical professional and your area. The search results will show the provider’s contact details and if they have an agreement with Bankmed (Full network cover) or if there is a chance that you might have to pay part of the cost yourself (Partial cover).

4. Submit claims

Currently we provide you with the opportunity to place your claims in designated claims boxes around the facility. This process however, has been causing unnecessary delays in the payment of claims.

Avoid payment delays on your claims and make use of these fast, easy ways to submit your claims!

Download the Bankmed App which will allow you to:

  • Use the camera on your Smartphone to take a photo of the claim and submit it via the App
  • Should your claim have a QR code, use your Smartphone to scan the QR code on the claim provided by your Healthcare Professional.

Submit claims using our website:

Log on to www.bankmed.co.za and go to ‘Claims’ and click on ‘Submit a claim’. Once there, go to ‘UPLOAD’ and click on ‘Upload now’. Select the file you wish to upload and then click on ‘Send claim’. Once the claim has been successfully uploaded you will receive a reference number.

E-mail your scanned claim to claims@bankmed.co.za

5. View your health record and share it

You can access your Electronic Health Record through the website or the Bankmed App. This shows you your medical history, such as what medication you claimed for and when you visited the doctor and the diagnosis starting from 1 January 2017. You can also provide your doctors access to this information so they know your medical history when they treat you. This will enable your doctor to study any previous blood test results and write electronic prescriptions, and even give them a better understanding of your Plan so they can send more accurate referrals to other Healthcare professionals.
