It's the number-one chronic condition Bankmed members claim for. Hypertension is one of the main risk factors for strokes, heart attacks and heart disease.
Our actuaries performed an analysis of Bankmed memberships’ claims; the data speaks for itself. In 2018, 28 811 members were enrolled for Chronic Illness Benefit cover for hypertension (chronic high blood pressure). This was a 0.6% increase from 2017. This means at least 13% of Bankmed members are at risk of suffering a stroke or developing heart disease if they do not manage their blood pressure appropriately.
