Bankmed's three steps to better health
Many medical conditions, like high blood pressure, don't have symptoms until it's damaged your body. This is why Bankmed recommends our yearly Personal Health Assessment to find out if your body is hiding the early signs of serious and life-altering conditions. Many of these conditions can be treated, or even reversed, if you find out about them early, start making lifestyle changes and take the necessary medication.
- Know your health
The Personal Health Assessment measures health indicators like your blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, waist measurement, and body mass index. Each year, you and your Healthcare Professional can see if your health is getting better or if there's cause for concern. You can also have an HIV test and counselling at the same time.
We pay for the Personal Health Assessment (for all members 18 years and older once a year) from your Insured Benefit, so you don't use your day-to-day benefits. You can have this done at a Wellness Day, at your GP, or at a network pharmacist. For pensioners we have contracted with BioFITT to conduct the screening in the comfort of your home, should that be your preference.
- Use your results for better health
The screening test can highlight potential health problems. Depending on your test results, you can improve your health by quitting smoking, eating healthy and exercising. Otherwise, you might need medication and our wellness specialists will refer you for further tests.
- Register on our Disease Management Programme
If you're diagnosed with diabetes, heart disease or HIV/AIDS, you can register on the Chronic Illness Benefit. By registering on the Chronic Illness Benefit, you gain access to the Premier Plus Programme. This Programme gives you access to the Prescribed Minimum Benefit level of care without using your day-to-day benefits. For full cover, a Healthcare Professional in the Bankmed Network must refer you to a Premier Plus GP.
